It started with a
drawer full of dead batteries.
Rollback wasn't built in a boardroom. It came out of two friends who missed their old point-and-shoots more than they wanted to admit. Loved shooting on film but when travelling it was always a hassle to find good development companies on the go.
The drawer
A box of old digicams, kept alive with dying batteries, kept getting passed around at every trip and every party.
The first ugly prototype
A gutted secondhand digicam, a digital sensor, and a screen taped over with black gaffer tape. It felt like the right idea.
Building it properly
Many prototype rounds later, we had our shell, our shutter feel, and a battery that actually lasted a trip.
Rollback One ships
The camera we wished someone else had made. One product, two colorways, no screen. Designed in the Canadian Rockies.
Why "Rollback"?
Every roll of film used to end the same way — winding back before you could open the camera. We rolled photography back to before the screen.
